MTV music coordinator murdered in L.A.

>>> are investigating the death of an mtv music coordinator shot outside his office. george lewis joins us from the scene of the crime . good morning.

>> reporter: good morning, ann. this is a tough one more homicide investigators. there were no witnesses. the victim was found by a neighbor out walking his dog several hours after the shooting. people around here describe this as a nice neighborhood , not a high crime area.

>> it scares me, because i have lived here my whole life. it's a peaceful neighborhood.

>> reporter: so people are stunned by the killing of the 30-year-old, well regarded by his colleagues, he worked behind the scenes as a music coordinator on shows like "punk'd" starring ashton kutcher , and top pop groups. mtv released the statement saying, we are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of gabe ben-meir, who was a valued member of the mtv family and a beloved and dedicated colleague and friend. our hearts go out to his family. his father is an entertainment accountant. his mother manages a couple of rock bands .

>> he was very, very nice. he comes from a long line of music. he loved music.

>> reporter: police are asking the public for help in running down any possible leads in the case. so far they concede that they are baffled.

>> what the motive is very unclear. it's early in the investigation.

>> there is no feeling to describe the feeling that comes over you. execution-style?

>> reporter: a handwritten sign summed it up in four words. gabriel, gone too soon. in an e-mail to mtv news, his father described his son as a renaissance man with interests in physics, music and gourmet cooking. his greatest failing, his father wrote, was an unquenchable love of the boston rox. a multi talented young man gunned down. his family grieving. neighbors scared and police baffled. ann?
